Question: how do you accelerate a 14-ton jet aircraft to takeoff speed from the 200-feet confines of the deck of a ship? Answer: you use the energy stored in steam from the ships boilers to drive a catapult which flings the aircraft into the air, in what must be the ultimate thrill ride, in a few seconds.
